April 2014 Round-up

Big Ben

It's hard for me to believe that today is the last day of April. After being gone for two weeks in the middle of the month, the last week or so has seemed to go by very quickly. I promise I will write more in depth about our European adventure later, but here is a short wrap-up of the April that was:

  • I spent the first few days of April preparing for our vacation and wrapping things up at work. There were so many meetings right before I left — I spent most of my time in front of my computer, listening to countless discussions on my phone headset.
  • On Friday, April 4, I worked in the morning and then drove home to Henderson in the afternoon. Sammy came with me since he stayed with his grandfather while I was away. The next day, we drove up to Dallas so Mom and I could catch our plane for Europe. Of course, we stopped for Mexican food along the way at Carmona's in Terrell. After they dropped us off, Dad and Paul went to the Final Four at AT&T Stadium.
  • Mom and I arrived in Paris on Sunday, April 6 and didn't stop moving until we flew home on Friday, April 18. In between, we climbed to the top of the Sacre-Couer, visited Monet's gardens, enjoyed eating macarons and bon-bons, walked and walked (three days over 20,000 steps), learned more about D-Day at the Normandy beaches, practiced our French (well, I tried to...), rode the Eurostar to London, experienced Oxford and its many charms, visited Highclere Castle, explored Westminster Abbey, and much more. We've been calling it our dream drip, and it truly was.
  • Dad picked both Mom and me up at the airport on April 18. We ate at Carmona's again on the way home.
  • We celebrated Easter at Paul and Esther's house. Esther did an amazing job with all of the food. I left their house late that Sunday to drive home to Austin, so I didn't make it back until after 9 p.m.
  • The rest of the month has been about getting back into the groove at work. It's still a work in progress, but hopefully I'll get there soon.

Books I read: The American Heiress (Daisy Goodwin); Where'd You Go, Bernadette (Maria Semple); Hannah's Dream (Diane Hammond)

Movies I watched: The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, Frozen, The Railway Man (all on the way home from London)

TV: Call the Midwife, Parenthood, Dancing with the Stars, Grey's Anatomy, Castle (and I made it through the last couple of hours of the plane ride home by watching three episodes of The Big Bang Theory)
