On Saturday, my dad and I decided to explore downtown Baton Rouge. We started out at the Red Stick Farmers Market and then drove over to Louisiana State Capitol. Even though I had visited the Capitol when I was little, I didn't remember much, so it was nice to see everything again.

We took the elevator to the observation deck and got a grand view of the Mississippi and downtown. Once we came down, we checked out the House and Senate chambers and went to the spot where Huey Long was killed.

The Louisiana State Museum was located across from the Capitol building, so we decided to visit. I learned some Louisiana history while I was there, so my mom was quite proud. I was most interested in the section on Uncle Tom's Cabin — having visited Harriet Beecher Stowe's house in Hartford, Connecticut, I don't usually connect her with Louisiana. Of course, a good part of Uncle Tom's Cabin takes place in Louisiana, so it makes sense. (Stowe herself never made it to Louisiana, if I remember correctly.)
After we finished looking around, Dad and I went off in search of something to eat and settled on Cane's. It was a delicious way to end our time together. I'm glad we were able to spend a few hours with each other on this trip.
